The Melvindale Housing Commission provides housing assistance to low-income residents of Wayne County, Michigan. We manage one public housing development called Coogan Terrace. Rent and admission at the Terrace is based on income. The Coogan Terrace has 199 one bedroom apartments for elderly or disabled persons.
The Melvindale Housing Commission public housing staff is responsible for the day to day operation and asset management of 199 dwelling units at the Coogan Terrace Apartments in the City of Melvindale. As a team, we provide service to our customers, the residents of MHC. Our Property Manger, Administrative Specialist, and Maintenance staff are the onsite team that deliver and sustain service to our residents. Our training and quality control seeks to ensure that residents have the highest level of service in all aspects of the living environment, from ensuring the correct rent, maintenance repairs and grounds care.
The goal of the agency is to provide decent, safe, sanitary, drug-free housing in good repair to all MHC residents. In this effort, the agency also strives to improve living conditions for low-income families while charging only 30% of the families income for rent. The rules and regulations that govern Public Housing Authorities are determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These rules and regulations are also referenced in the Code of Federal Regulations 24 (CFR). A new CFR is released each year with updated rules and regulations.
Various activities, events, and programs are offered to our residents. These include:
