Our Mission - The Melvindale Housing Commission is committed to creating and preserving affordable housing and related supportive services for low-income families. MHC seeks to serve the diverse needs of Wayne County residents through innovative programs, partnerships and effective stewardship while fostering a respectful, supportive work place.
Funded primarily through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the MHC is independently administered and is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of the City of Melvindale and approved by the City Council. Our governing board typically meets the third Monday afternoon of each month at the Community Room of Coogan Terrace located at 3501 Oakwood Blvd., Melvindale, MI 48122.

-Welcome! -to the Melvindale Housing Commission. The Melvindale Housing Commission (MHC) provides housing assistance to low-income residents of Wayne County, Michigan.
We currently serve over 300 households in Wayne County. The Melvindale Housing Commission was established by the City of Melvindale on October 5, 1977 to provide affordable housing for low-income residents of Melvindale.
We manage one public housing development called Coogan Terrace. This apartment building has 199 one-bedroom apartments for elderly or disabled persons. We also administer tenant-based rental assistance, commonly referred to as the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
